Many are familiar with Ayurveda, and have heard of vata, pitta and kapha—the three doshas.
In general, when a dosha increases or becomes aggravated, it creates an imbalance that can eventually manifest as symptoms of dis-ease within the body and mind. That is why in Ayurveda we learn to balance and manage our doshas.
But are you aware that each dosha has a refined subtle essence which supports wellness? In this free immersive series of 40-minute evening sessions, we will progressively awaken the vital essences of Ayurveda, with 3 stand-alone practices that build into the gift of Dru Ayurveda’s most treasured subtle healing practice—the amrita sadhana. A taste of the positive qualities of the doshas and their vital essences
Vata, a predominance of air and space Vata dosha is the energy associated with movement. When vata is in tune, all movement in the body is harmonised. Outwardly we are dancing gracefully, inwardly we are smoothly moving the body: the ebb and flow of the breath, muscles gliding, nerves firing well carrying clear messages around the body. Our timing is impeccable, we feel creative, flexible and adaptable, able to take on any challenge. The subtle essence of vata dosha is prana, our life force, the breath that moves within us. When we enhance or boost our prana our levels of adaptability, inspiration and creativity will also rise.
Pitta, fire and a little water Pitta dosha expresses principally as the body’s metabolism, our ability to absorb and assimilate. It is our digestive fire and also the processes of our endocrine system. Tejas, the refined vital essence of pitta dosha, increases when pitta dosha, the fire element, is in balance. The bright intelligence of tejas guides us through life. When we have high quality tejas, we have charisma—we shine. Everybody likes to be around a warm fire. Abundant tejas expresses as confidence, courage, radiance, drive and positive transformation. It gives us clear perception to see things as they really are, rather than how we may want them to be.
Kapha, the elements water and earth Kapha dosha lubricates and moisturises the skin, tissues and joints and underpins the action of our immunity. Kapha is also the source of steadiness, memory, love, calmness, and forgiveness. The purest essence of kapha dosha is ojas—the elixir of longevity. It refreshes and nourishes, supports our strength and stability, vitality, and resistance to illness. It is the foundation of our wellness, gives us energy and boosts the lustre of our skin. Ojas fills our heart, enabling us to be even more friendly and loving.
